My focus as an instructor of Hebrew language and literature is to provide an opportunity for every student to achieve the highest level of proficiency. I grew up in Israel where I received my undergraduate degree at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. I completed my M.A. at UCSB.
I love teaching all levels of Hebrew. At the introductory level, I like to help students see and understand the structure of the language, which is so different than English. It is exciting to see how—within a few weeks—students learn to read, write and communicate in a language they had no previous knowledge of. In the intermediate and upper level classes, I have mixed groups of both heritage and non-heritage students. This provides me with an opportunity to use differentiated instruction to reach a common goal. I also strive to develop cultural awareness and to include as much information as possible on Israeli literature, music, history, politics, current events, social norms and customs.
In my spare time I enjoy reading, watching movies, hiking and doing a lot of yoga, and I go to Israel almost every summer to stay in touch with my family and with the evolving language and culture.
