Elementary German

Department of Germanic, Slavic and Semitic Studies

Course Description:

The goals of first-year German are to help you to comprehend, speak, and write German with good accuracy provided you prepare thoroughly outside of class and take an active part in class. In general, the idea is that you will read and learn about the grammar before coming to class so that class time can be spent mainly using the language and communicating in German, rather than talking about grammar or doing endless drills. Be prepared to spend about an hour daily on homework. You are expected to turn in your homework even if you have to miss a class.
