Hebrew linguistics, syntax, discourse, language pedagogy. Modern Israeli literature. My focus as an instructor of Hebrew language and literature is to provide an opportunity for every student to achieve the highest level of proficiency. I grew up in Israel where I received my undergraduate degree at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. I completed my M.A. at UCSB. I love teaching all levels of Hebrew. At the introductory level, I like to help students see and understand the structure of the language, which is so different than English. It is exciting to see how—within a few weeks—students learn to read, write and communicate in a language they had no previous knowledge of. In the intermediate and upper level classes, I have mixed groups of both heritage and non-heritage students. This provides me with an opportunity to use differentiated instruction to reach a common goal. I also strive to develop cultural awareness and to include as much information as possible on Israeli literature, music, history, politics, current events, social norms and customs. In my spare time I enjoy reading, watching movies, hiking and doing a lot of yoga, and I go to Israel almost every summer to stay in touch with my family and with the evolving language and culture. |
