Vigil reminder: Hesse died on August 9th Reply to this post

(I know that this posting will last for ages on this board, but I feel that it is necessary.)

Hermann Hesse, who means more to me than any other human whom have ever existed, passed away on August 9th, 1962. I will mourn deeply on the 9th -next week. And may all of us fans, life-travelers who share in the same calling, grieve together.

Sadly,
Duke

thank you Duke. His birthday is July 2, 1877.

I just found all sorts of his poems, which I can not read, because they are in German. The following is one such poem:

ELISABETH
Ich soll erzíhlen
die Nacht ist schon spít -
willst du mich quílen,
sch›ne Elisabeth?
Daran ich dichte
und du dazu,
meine Liebesgeschichte
ist dieser Abend und du.
Du musst nicht st›ren
die Reime verwehn.
Bald wirst du sie h›ren

Here are many more

I love him too.

I do not plan on grieving however. I think it would be more in to acknowledge his enrichment of our own lives.

need a translation?

ELISABETH

i will tell
the night is already late
do you want to torture me
beautiful Elisabeth?
Hence i write a poem
and you along
my love-story
is this evening and you
you must not disturb
twist the rhyme
Soon you'll hear her ...

I am very happy that I found this forum while stumbling around today. I didn't realize it was the anniversay of Hesse's death. I can't express in words what his work has meant to me, but I will take time today to think about it, and to be glad that it is there for me whenever I need it. Thank you Hermann Hesse.

Thank you, sXe Morosoofje, for the eloquent translation.

For the first time ever, I wish that I could read German.
