Bio

Andreas Bernard, born 1969 in Munich, is a Professor for Cultural and Media Studies at Leuphana University Lüneburg and Max Kade Visiting Professor at UCSB in the winter quarter of 2024. He studied German Literature, Comparative Literature and Cultural Studies and was a Scientific Researcher at Bauhaus University Weimar and at University of Constance. As a journalist, he was a staff writer for Süddeutsche Zeitung, Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung and DIE ZEIT. Book publications translated to English include: Lifted: A Cultural History of the Elevator, New York: New York University Press (2014); The Triumph of Profiling: The Self in Digital Culture, Cambridge: Polity Press (2019); Theory of the Hashtag, Cambridge: Polity Press (2019).
